Paint your kitchen without plastic
Renew your existing kitchen with our plastic-free laquer paint. Combine the colour of the kitchen with our organic wall paint, tiles, grout, worktops, faucets and handles. We have ensured that the materials and shades harmonize. Scroll down for a step-by-step guide.
1. Disassemble and wash
Start by unscrewing all handles from the cabinets. Then unscrew all the kitchen doors and lay them flat on a work table where they will later be painted. Wash all surfaces that is going to be painted thoroughly with paint cleaner. The substrate must be clean, dry and firm.
2. Fix and grind
If you have damaged surfaces on the kitchen doors or cupboards, now is the time to fix them. You can do this most easily with carpentry putty and a Japanese putty. Then sand all surfaces to be painted with fine sandpaper (approx. 180 grit). Remove all sanding dust with a damp cloth.
3. Mask and protect
If you are also going to paint the kitchen frame and not just the doors, you now need to mask the wall around the frame, and other nearby surfaces that should not be painted, with masking tape. Protect the floor with a blanket or floor protection cardboard. The easiest way to protect the worktop is with a plastic cover.
4. Primer and sandpaper
Now it's time to prime the kitchen doors and the kitchen frame with our plastic-free wood primer. Edges and narrow surfaces are painted with a lacquer brush and smooth surfaces with a fine-haired roller. If the inside of the kitchen doors are to be painted, paint these first and let dry. Then paint the outside. Allow the base color to dry for approximately 8 hours. The primed surfaces are then sanded with fine sandpaper (approx. 400 grit). Then wipe off all sanding dust with a damp cloth.
5. Paint doors and frame
Now it's time to paint the doors and frame with our plastic-free laquer paint. First paint edges and narrow surfaces with a lacquer brush, and then smooth surfaces with a fine-haired roller. Paint wet on wet (ie do not let the paint dry anywhere before you have finished painting the surface). Allow the paint to dry for at least 12 hours. Then sand with fine sandpaper (approx. 400 grit) and wipe off sanding dust with a damp cloth. Then paint a second and final stroke.
6. Fit doors and handles
Remove all covering material such as masking tape, covering felt and covering plastic. Screw kitchen doors and handles in place. The painted surfaces are fully hardened only after several days, but you can carefully install kitchen doors and handles 12 hours after the last coat of paint has been applied. Good luck!
